Deep within the enchanting rolling hills, lived a shepherd boy. His existence was essentially untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His only responsibility was to tend to his herd of sheep.

Their low murmuring and the murmuring of the gales among the lone tree on the mountaintop were his constant co-dwellers. Day upon day, guarding his responsibilities imbued in him a feeling of tranquil contentment.

Yet, there were the occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. On one such day out of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome plan.

Stories of wolves preying on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a prank on the inhabitants.

One afternoon he raced into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my website sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills for rescue but saw nothing threatening.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This trick persisted for a few more days. But, one noon, a real wolf did come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the consequences of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once lost, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
